The new Tara Theatre is the UK’s first dedicated small-scale multicultural theatre, housing a 100-seat auditorium and a separate rehearsal/development studio, along with an outdoor patio space. Architecturally, the new Tara Theatre is a fusion of Edwardian brick and Indian wood, including doors and architraves from India, all held together within a 21st century steel cube. The architectural multiculturalism of the building is echoed in the artistic programme on offer.
The new Tara Theatre produces and hosts world classics, new plays, plays for children and act as a base for outdoor theatre in public spaces involving local communities.
CES was employed to assist the team through the design of Mechanical & Electrical services, to produce environmental and sustainable strategies enabling the project to achieve BREEAM “Excellent”. This work involved detailed modelling of the building including energy and CFD analysis.
The Auditoria was modelled using EDSL Tas CFD analysis software to understand the effects of external air temperatures upon the internal environment of the auditoria. All internal gains including occupancy performance lighting and equipment gains are included.
Ventilation Rate 1030 l/s @ 180 C, Peak Equipment and lighting gains.
